Inverter maintenance

Changing the inverter oil and replacing the filter cartridge is part of regular maintenance. For the sake of simplicity it can be done during every other service, which corresponds to about 400h, out of the 500h required.

EQUIPMENT REQUIRED:
TOOLS:
  • A can of over 5L for the oil change
  • An oil syringe (Jabsco hand pump) for emptying with various tubes
  • Plastic bags to use during the removal of the filters
  • Cloths
  • Portable 24V lamp or equivalent
  • Toolbox with Allen keys
  • Bucket with large rubbish bags
  • Solvent cleaner
SUPPLIES:
  • 1 set of inverter filters
  • 5 litres of ATF oil

PROCEDURE:

P1090537_modif

  • Open the inverter plug/oil dipstick (fig. 1) and pump the oil using a hand pump equipped with a rigid tube with an internal diameter of 6mm (copper tube for example).
  • Loosen the filter-plug screw by a few turns to remove the plug (fig. 2). It is equipped with 2 gaskets: a small O-ring to be re-inserted oiled and a large O-ring to be re-inserted dry.
  • Extract the filter cartridge and pump out the rest of the oil
  • Fill the oil through the hole in the centre of the oil filter inlet, while monitoring the oil level using the dipstick (dipstick screwed in). About 2.5 L of ATF oil.
  • Fit the filter on the plug (the shallowest hole in the filter pointing downwards, the other fitted onto the plug equipped with an O-ring), then put everything back. Screw on the socket-head screw until contact has been made then turn lightly to lock (less than a quarter turn).
